Mariko Ohmukai hails from an upper middle class family in Sumaru who made sure that she wanted for nothing. She threw all of that back in their faces, as she far preferred heroin. Not even out of her teens, Mariko works in the grey market between 'hostess' and 'gun moll,' and her involvement at the periphery of Yamaguchi-gumi affairs has put her in contact with various Persona wielders in recent months. Most of them underestimate Mariko, writing her off as a junkie or a whore. Few of them suspect her for what she really is: cunning and chillingly amoral.

Mariko Ohmukai, only daughter of Yutaro and Kimiko, was born into the upper middle class in Sumaru, and had every advantage contained therein. Smart, pretty, and docile, she accompanied her father -- a mid-level denim magnate -- on business trips all around Europe. Following an incestuous affair, she experimented with hard drugs and quickly became a heroin addict. After several attempts to clean her up, her family threw her out. She failed to complete high school, and instead operated as a full-time junkie despite being all of fifteen. After briefly fleeing to Inaba to clean up, Mariko became bewilderingly indoctrinated into the world of Personae, although her full shamanic potential has yet to be approached, let alone tapped. She returned to Sumaru and began working as a hostess-girl for Yakuza gentlemen, and unfortunately (given her addictive personality) crime seems to have a magnetic appeal to her...

Though lacking an official diagnosis, it's entirely possible that Mariko is a sociopath. Her behavior and demeanor is typically defined by a casual, willful indifference. She lets things happen, and doesn't care if they're good or bad. On the other hand, she's always keen to avoid truly belonging to anyone or anything. No single aspect of her exists without a corresponding, contradicting counterpoint. She has no real regard for the consequences of her actions, toward others or toward herself, but at the same time, she's capable of empathy, and of understanding the feelings of others. However, being capable of empathy and caring about other people are two entirely different things.
