Miya is a woman whose life has been defined by misunderstandings and misfortune, mostly self-inflicted. Adopted as a very young child by Japanese parents, Miya feels as if she has never known true acceptance; she is both desperate to be loved and aggressive towards anyone who tries. She tries to tell herself that relying on her own tough-as-nails attitude will get herself through life, because the alternative is relying on others -- and others only hurt her. Though she attempted to do good through SEES when they discovered she had the Potential, paranoia and suspicion eroded her trust in the organisation, leaving it ripe to be shattered as Shuji Ikutsuki made his move. Now free of their influence, she wanders, forcing her thuggish will on anyone who stumbles across her path.

Lynette, a figure from Arthurian legend, is a noblewoman who travelled to King Arthur's court on behalf of her sister Lyonesse, whose lands were under attack by the Red Knight. She refused to reveal her name to the court, and was thus sent away with a kitchen servant -- who was secretly Gareth of Orkney. Lynette left Arthur's court in a huff, and proceeded to attempt to drive the man she knew as Beaumains away from her with insults. But as Beaumains proves himself in battle, Lynette grows to respect him; as they traveled, he was knighted by Sir Lancelot. When they arrived at Lynette's castle, Beaumains defeated the Red Knight, and Lynette nursed him back to health. Here, the story splits. In the original legend, Gareth fell in love with her sister, Lyonesse, and when they travel back to Arthur's court Lynette falls in love with Gareth's older brother; in Alfred Tennyson's poem, he instead fell in love with Lynette herself. Lynette appears as a woman in medieval noblewoman's clothing, who wields a knight's sword.
