Folklore, Mythology, and Urban Legend Research
- The Obakemono Project - A stylish site dedicated to supernatural creatures in Japanese mythology and folklore.
- Encyclopedia Mythica - A site devoted to all sorts of myths and folklore from around the world. Some of the more obscure figures are little more than blurbs, but it's a good place to check.
- Godchecker.com - An irreverent take on mythology. Some entries are short, and the site has a tendency of getting overworked, but it's a fun place to look.
Japan Research
- Wikipedia: Public Holidays in Japan - Forget what days are public holidays in Japan? You're not alone! This is a good reference.
- Wikipedia: Education in Japan - Also useful, for the many school-aged characters! Includes information on college years.
- Facts and Details: Juvenile Crime in Japan - Law in Japan comes up a lot, so this is a good place to get an overview of some of the famous juvenile crime cases, plus how the laws have changed over the years. It also has a list of additional resources.
- Japan Subculture Research Center - A good introduction to some of the darker/grittier sides of Japanese life.
Language
- How to Type Japanese on Your Computer - What it says on the tin. It also tells you how to get the encoding for Japanese to work on your browser.
- Jeffrey's Japanese - English Dictionary - Just plain awesome. Has a lot of flexibility for looking up Japanese words and names.
- Kanji Radical Lookup - Useful if you know Japanese; not that useful otherwise.
Tarot and Jungian Psychology Resources
- Aeclectic.net - A good overview of the tarot and their symbolism. Also includes symbolism for reversed cards.
- An Introduction to Jung's Shadow - Like it says, an introduction to the Shadow as Jung uses it. Useful for thinking about your character's Shadow, among other things.
