Captain Rebellion

From Persona MUSH Wiki

A shounen manga series drawn and written (but mostly drawn) by artistic prodigy Shiki Ichimonji. Published at a biweekly rate in the Shounen Super manga anthology. While it has at the time of writing only reached its fifteenth chapter, the universe has since been fleshed out in many confusing and unnecessarily plot-twisty ways. Full recaps of the first few chapters can be found here!

Characters

Captain R

Hero and leader of the Secret Rebellion. First known human to ever summon a Ghost Helper. Was blinded in an incident several years ago, forcing him to conceal his face with special "techno-goggles" that allow him to see. An extremely powerful martial artist.

Net

  • Inspiration: None
  • Ghost Helper: Helter Skelter

Master hacker. The goofball counterpart to Captain R's stoic nature, and sidekick of sorts. Fighting is not his forte, but his prowess in electronic warfare prove invaluable in combating the Drakon's mechanical monstrosities. Has recently become romantically linked to Tsukasa, but this is only apparent for a maximum of three panels a chapter.

Tiara

  • Inspiration: None
  • Ghost Helper: Lucy in the Sky

Sexy treasure huntress. The most recent recruit of the Secret Rebellion, scouted for her incredible ability to infiltrate just about anything. Supposed to be able to handle herself in a fight, but falls into a damsel in distress role distractingly often.

Dark O

  • Inspiration: None
  • Ghost Helper: Revolution 9

Mysterious Drakon nemesis from the Captain's past. Bears a scar left by Revolution's first summoning, and may or may not be entirely responsible for the mess the planet is in.

Commander T

Drill sergeant. Co-founder of the Secret Rebellion with Captain R. Heavily inspired by a certain 80s icon. Looks and acts tough and brutal, but deeply cares about the soldiers put under his charge. Has a soft spot for dogs.

Tsukasa

Member of the F-Force 5. Whose amount of screentime has dramatically risen since her first introduction. Was originally characterized as meek and shy, but now displays much greater self-confidence and combat prowess. Wields an axelance, a versatile transforming weapon.

Taiga

Leader of the F-Force 5. A large female oni whose terrifying strength is known to cause panic in even the normally cool Captain R. She and Commander T are often at odds but, together, form an unbeatable team.

Yoshina

Member of the F-Force 5. Referred to as a massive "moeblob" by fans, and the target of terrible luck that makes her that much more endearing. A character poll favorite, definitely appreciated by readers despite her limited appearances.

Athena

  • Inspiration: Aigis
  • Ghost Helper: Polythene Pam

Member of the F-Force 5. Mostly emotionless but endearing combat android, built to look like a schoolgirl for some reason.

Haruka

Member of the F-Force 5. The most dynamic member of the team, a source of cheer and support even when the situation seems most dire.

Lana

  • Inspiration: Ran Itoh
  • Ghost Helper: Honey Pie

Mysterious "Sixth Ranger" of the F-Force 5. Is secretly the Secret Rebellion HQ's lunchlady and Haruka's older sister, but keeps her identity a secret because it's cooler that way.

Reddo

One of the Checkmate Twins, a pair of heroes who help the Secret Rebellion on occasion. Nice but somewhat uptight, known to make a lot of chess references.

Burakku

  • Inspiration: Kyo Enda
  • Ghost Helper: Mr. Moonlight

One of the Checkmate Twins, a pair of heroes who help the Secret Rebellion on occasion. The more laid-back of the two, who messes up his brother's chess analogies with checkers jokes.

Matou

  • Inspiration: Minato Arisato
  • Ghost Helper: Nyu Mary-Jane (Shared with Kuro)

Part of a duo of Drakon warriors posing as TV celebrity cooks. The more aloof and distant of the two, his true love for Kuro is only matched by the taste of his cooking. He and Kuro were originally adversaries of the Secret Rebellion, but have since defected to become a valuable source of comic relief for Team Good Guy.

Kuro

  • Inspiration: Shiro Koda
  • Ghost Helper: Nyu Mary-Jane (Shared with Matou)

Part of a duo of Drakon warriors posing as TV celebrity cooks. The more emotional of the two, his true love for Matou is only matched by the taste of his cooking.

True Matou

The celebrity cook originally impersonated by Matou, who punched his way out of cryogenesis pod after ten years. A massive badass said to be able to fight on even ground with Commander T despite not having a Ghost Helper. Seeks to avenge the death of True Kuro at the hand of Dark O.

The General

A Drakon general faced by Captain R and his team in the first chapter. Has a tank and took the shape of a certain World War II general for some reason.

Glossary

Crystal Chip

The series' recurring McGuffin, said to contain data vital to the fate of the planet. The Secret Rebellion and Drakon Empire fight over them, and it is said that a miracle will occur if all seven are reunited.

Drakon Empire

A race of shape-shifting alien lizards who have, in the far-flung future of 2099, begun taking over human society, starting with Japan. Have vast and implausible resources at their disposal, as well as several means of turning normal humans into fellow Drakon warriors.

F-Force 5

An all-female team of Secret Rebellion warriors. They ride totally awesome flying motorcycles and sometimes conceal their identities with helmets while making dramatic appearances. For some reason they rarely win major battles when all five of them are together, but Taiga and Tsukasa have recently earned their on-screen stripes with some good heroic moments.

Ghost Helper

For all intents and purposes, a Persona. Most people, however, think the series is just ripping off JoJo. Was originally activated by a specific emotion and summoned only by certain very important people, but it seems these days there's no real rhyme or reason to it.

Secret Rebellion

Humanity's last stand against the Drakon Empire's "secret invasion". Reunites the best and brightest warriors from around the globe (but mostly Japan), with wildly differing skill sets used to defeat the Drakon at all costs. Originally founded by Captain R and Commander T, but now has several hundred members, each of whom is said to be a one-man army in one way or another.

Tokyo Tower

A famous and original Tokyo landmark underneath which is situated, deep under the ground, the Secret Rebellion HQ. Somehow the Drakon have apparently missed this, and have yet to launch a full-on assault against it.

Extremely Important Note

"Captain Rebellion" is the name of the manga series, and does not actually mean anything in-universe. The lead character is called "Captain R", but the R does not stand for anything, while the "Secret Rebellion" is the name of the organization he leads. His Ghost Helper is called "Revolution" for entirely unrelated reasons.

The author, early on, thought it would be a great idea to make this all as confusing as humanly possible, so that the true fans could be told apart from those who just read for the pretty art and/or cool fights. He has gotten a little sick of correcting people by now, but it's way too late for him to change anything at this point.
